Is there any way to control where files are stored I want to be able to save photos to more than one place if the phone can make its own sub folders for camera messaging and downloaded why can't we make our own folders and move files it seems like it should be a simple task is there even an app that'll do it?

Here you go, hope this helps...  This is my Droid 2 but same thing should work..  After creating folder copy and past just like you do on a desktop..  Select, copy and paste into folder.

You can make your own folders using the files app that came preinstalled on the device.

2. Click left menu button

3. Select Add

4. Type Name

5. Click OK

And that's going to allow me to move photos and videos around?

Why not try it and see for yourself?

It's just like windows explorer on your PC.

Where are you getting the Gallery part?  The app you are using is the "File" app which is your file explorer.  Also make sure you are not connected to a PC because if you are in Mass Storage mode you can npt access SD Card.

Ok im not connected to the pc when I open "files" I get the options of phone folders and shared folders this where I should sd card correct? If open phone folders there isn't anything camera or photo gallery related. There are a few scattered photos here and one folder that says messaging which holds photos received through text but I opened every folder here and can't find anything with all the photos in my gallery im trying to find the main photo gallery which has all the photos on the phone in it and there is where I want to put a few sub folders and separate the pics but there is just no folder that's allowing me to reach the photo gallery.

Phone Folder is the correct one but you need to go the the DCIM / CAMERA this is where all the camera images are stored..

Odd this isn't a feature in regular gallery view or at least and option to chose what folder when saving the file to begin with I guess these things haven't got to pc status yet

So this didn't really do anything after making folders and sorting the photos I open the camera gallery and there are none of the folders just the same thing I had before ....did I do this wrong or is this feature only for the use withe the pc? Is there some way to make my own subfolders that appear when I actually open the camera gallery? Kind of pointless to keep sorting photos when I can't make any practical use of it in daily use

After you make change to a directory you usually have to restart device before changes shows up....

Also sometime you have to goto homepage / left menu button / settings / Applications / Manage Applications / All Tab / Media Storage and Clear Data and then reboot for Gallery to rebuild files locations..

No the Gallery is a little finiky with indexing images after they been moved ...  What I usually do  is open gallery and give it about 60 seconds and then close gallery with task killer and then reopen and images will show.

Ok finally got it working hopefully they iron this out and simplify the process on future phones or versions of android...would love to see some sort of option to save to different folders rather than after the fact almost isn't worth the hassle sorting everything versus scrolling through photos

All files are part of a file system and it scans for files in spacific folders to optimize system access to the files, when you modify them this is when a few hiccup happen, every OS that I can think of handle files this way.

There is 3rd party galleries that has simular option of what you are wanting, moving files isnt to complex once you get it down, but I get not everyone view things the same way..

Try the 3D Gallert located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694005

I did help, I'm the one that told you about the files app. Don't get mad at me because you didn't get to know the basics of how the device works..You asked a question about what the app would do instead of going to the app to see.
