sounds attached to texts will not save as ringtones

I have tried several ways to save a sound attachment from a text message but every time I try to save it, the screen that pops up says save slideshow - same thing happens with my pictures.  I've tapped and held the attachment - each time I get the same message:  "save slideshow".  The pics will save to the gallery.  The sounds save to my music folder and I cannot figure out how to save the sounds as a ringtone.  Any help?

You don't save it as a ringtone, you just save the file then use it as a ringtone.

You can open the music app, find the sound file, press and hold the file, and a menu comes up. One of the options is set as ringtone.

Thanks!  This is the first "smart phone" I've owned. My other phone was the LG Voyager and you just save the attachment as a picture or as a ringtone.  I think this new droid phone is WAY smarter then I am!  LOL

Thanks for the help!

Just downloaded my first ringtone using the Droid 2 Global. I opened the music app, but there is no option (settings) to save the file to my music from the text file. Haven't figured out how to find the file on the SD card to move it from there either. When I  press and hold the file in the text message, all it does it start playing the song. I have not been able to find any option, either by going into settings or by pressing and holding, that allows me to add the song to my ringtones.

Thank you

pdronline- I apologize for any inconvenience surrounding the ringtone options through text messaging.  Below I have provided you with the steps to save audio text messages as ringtones on your Droid 2.

1.  From the home screen, select the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
2.  Select Messaging.

3.  Select one of the following options.

  • Universal Inbox
  • Text Messaging

4.  Select the message with the ringtone.

5.  Select and hold the attachment

6.  Select Save audio.

7.  Select Home.

8.  Select the applications tab.

9.  Select Music.

10.  Select the Songs tab.

11.  Select and hold the song.

12.  Select Use as phone ringtone.

I hope this information is helpful.  Have a wonderful day!

Thank you,
