After my Droid X has been inactive for a little while, it doesn't immediately respond when I use the touchscreen. For example, trying to slide the message bar down, it doesn't budge. Just before it makes the flight through my picture window it starts to respond again. Any ideas? Thanks. Have only had it a couple days.

If it appears "laggy" or non-responsive, I would question what you might have installed that is chewing up the CPU on your phone. There are a variety of APPS that can assist in trouble-shooting something like this - one I use is SYSTEM PANEL.
edit: Did you install and "LIVE" wallpapers or "widgets" that are cinstantly or oftern polling data? Like Weather? Facebook? etc.
if it is a reproduceable issue, you can try booting up in SAFE MODE just to see if the problem exists even in that mode of operation. In SAFE MODE, the phone only loads the native APPS and not (the majority) of the 3rd party apps you installed. Might be worth trying -- if the problem goes away in SAFE MODE, it is likely an APP that you installed that intriduced the problem ... time to start uninstalling until it is back to normal.
To get into SAFE MODE:
- Power OFF the phone.
- Press & HOLD (forever) the Menu button (far-left button)
- Continue to HOLD the menu button and power up the phone -- KEEP HOLDNG MENU BUTTON !!
The phone should eventually come up and saySAFE MODE in the lower left corner. Release the Menu button and TEST. If the problem goes away, it was an APP you installed.
To get out of SAFE MODE, just power off and back on as you normally do.
Good luck.

chances are as you were pulling down, your finger ended up over the gallery/pics.

When you're holding the phone, is any part of your hand or any finger touching the screen...even barely? I've noticed a few times, when I'm holding the phone sort of tightly, the fleshy part of my hand (by my thumb) is touching the screen, or maybe a finger tip is contacting the screen.
I also have a rather strange situation with an unresponsive screen. A lot of times, as I lay in bed before I go to sleep, I'm doing some last minute checks on the phone (I can't put it down! LOL). Since it's plugged in, I can't really hold it in my hand normally, so I have one finger on the top left corner and my thumb on the bottom left corner. My fingers are not touching the screen, but the screen is unresponsive. I have to hold the phone at the top to get it to work. Any ideas, anyone, why that might be?

I reported a similar situation over on the Moto forum some time ago. When the phone is in my CAR DOCK (Gomadic), with 1 finger I can NOT swipe on the screen to Unlock or scroll through things. I can reproduce this if I just lay the phone on a soft surace like a blanket or arm chair - but not on a hard surface like a table. What seems to be required is that I must "GROUND" the phone with my other hand for swipe gestures to work. What I mean by that is for instance in my Card Dock - I must reach up and touch the edge of the phone with my other hand for me to be able to properly swipe gestures ... very reproducable.
