I do have an sd adapter for my card reader. do I just select all and copy to a folder on my pc and just open the folder, select all and copy to my new card? My new card is a san disk micro. does it need to be formatted?

More than likely it doesn't need to be formatted. Most microsd cards are normally Fat32 pre-formatted.

This is a good way to transfer those files (IMO). One benefit to using this method is that you have now made a backup of your SD card data on your computer in case of problems.
Good luck.
