Wildman do think a Master Reset is needed before the update as was done before on gingerbread just to be on the safe side.B33

@B33 - did you do a FR before - for teh GB update? I would think if you did, just let this roll w/o a FR and see how things go. Of course the silver bullet is there if issues arise. But seems like a lot of work for "just in case". YMMV

The update brings the version to 4.5.602? I called Verizon and was told 4.5.596 is current. When I try to do an update it says "check for update is not available at this time, Try again later"
I am guessing it hasn't hit my phone yet?
Thanks

Hello SteelerFan,
If you have not received the update yet I would like to suggest something. From your device bring up the dial pad and dial *#*#2432546#*#* which is *#*#CHECKIN#*#*. Once you dial that code there is no need to press send but navigate your attention to the top of the device and look for the message that states checkin succeeded. Once you receive that message at the top of the device navigate to Settings>About Phone>System Updates and check for new update. If this does not automatically bring in the update please allow upto 1 hour and recheck. Please let me know if this assist you. Thank you.

When is this update going to be available to everyone? I have had my Droid X since January and know others who bought their phone after me and have received the update. I keep on getting the "Check for update not available" message. I know I'm probably just being impatient but...I WANT SOME GINGERBREAD! I spoke with someone at VZW Customer Service and they couldn't help me either.

I had the same issue, I ended up calling Verizon and they called Motorola who finally had me do a factory reset which worked.

@B33
From the list of apps that you sent me that you reported having insltalled a hard reset doesnt seem required because you dont have any apps that modifies the OS, basically the device is still stock except a few add ons...
As long as the apps that you have installed doesnt modify the OS then you should be ok with doing update without a reset...

The update went through for me but only thing I notice is less lag time and not quite as often dumping into 1X from 3G. If it does drop from 3G, it is only for a second or so....whereas before it stayed there for several minutes. But I have noticed that my battery does seem to drain quicker than it did before. I use Pandora at work via a bluetooth headset and before the update, it be down to 70% by lunchtime (2-3 hrs of use) but now after the update its down to 50% by lunchtime with same time usage. I never had to hook it up to the charger at work but rarely but since the update it needs to be hooked up to the charger at work. So if they updated better battery management, then it went in the wrong direction from what they are saying. Wow Motorola failed in this update to the update. I'm starting to heavily think that maybe I need to put a thirdparty ROM on this phone instead so atleast I can enjoy the phone in the way it is supposed to be enjoyed

Try clearing your battery status may help with this issues.... Settings / Applications / Manage Applications / All Tabs / Battery / Clear Data
