what can I use my Droid Charge for, after I upgrade to the new Samsung Galaxy S2 for VZW on Sept 8?

what can I use my Droid Charge for, after I upgrade to the new Samsung Galaxy S2 for Verizon on September 8?

I guess it can run fine on Wi-Fi and become a media player.... or is there a market for 1-month-old Droid Charge phones?

How much trade-in value can I get from VZW or BestBuy or Amazon?

Thanks!

Just speculation based on the "leaked" Verizon roadmap.

where is this "roadmap" you're referring to?

I was told about the September 8 date by the manager at the VZW corporate store in Tysons.

(but he happens to be my former neighbor's father-in-law)

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/08/03/leaked-verizon-roadmap-reveals-potential-launch-dates-for-strat...

  • DROID Bionic:  (9/8 launch) – You already know everything about this device, don’t you?
  • Samsung Stratosphere:  (9/8 launch) – 4G LTE device running Android 2.3
  • HTC Vigor:  (10/6 launch) – Will replace the HTC Thunderbolt
  • LG Revolution 2:  (10/20 launch) – Will replace the original Revolution
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab P8 (November launch) – Could be the 8.9″ Galaxy Tab?
  • Samsung Illusion:  (9/29 launch) – 3G smartphone running Android 2.3
  • Samsung Plato:  (January launch) – whatever it is, it was pushed to 2012
  • HTC Bliss:  (9/29 launch) – Lower end Android 2.3 device; the chick phone?
  • Motorola XOOM 4G LTE:  (9/8 launch) – Assuming this is the date that the 4G LTE upgrade starts. Also when the 4G LTE version will be in stores.

i love how the article describes the htc vigor. makes me feel great about my purchase...lol. i wouldn't have a problem with ALL of the various devices being released every month, if they would at least support the old ones (and by old, i mean a few months...lol). so many options and choices in devices is great....if they could at least support the older ones for 1-2 years. they are setting people up to be completely gunshy when they are upgrade eligible.

yup, and those devices will probably be outdated in 6-8 months when the first wave of quadcore phones hit.

A quick look on eBay indicates that used Charge phones priced in the low 200's or below are drawing bids, but anything at 300 or above is not.

Verizon Wireless website is currently showing a trade-in value of $216 for the Samsung Droid Charge.

I normally don't bother with Ebay if most winning bids are within $50 of trade-in prices from Verizon, Amazoon, or Best Buy. :smileyhappy:

(not worth the hassle of packing/shipping and/or dealing with buyer who complain about everything :smileyhappy: )

It's better to look at the completed listings as it looks like most sold actually sold for $350-$400.  You can also look at craigslist.  Had good luck there getting $200 out of a 1yr old OG Droid and a 6-8 month old Fascinate and you should definitely be able to get more out of the Charge if you sell it sooner rather than later.

Right, OK, don't buy much on eBay.

So, if I were to buy a used Charge on eBay, would Verizon give me a 2-year contract (with a new phone number or my current one) without further charges?

if you buy a phone on ebay, you dont have to have a contract

you have to have data, and voice minutes

basically same thing you have now, but no contract

Dear mdram,

Thanks for the info.  I guess I am super-conventional and have always gotten a new phone from VZW when I needed to, which of course meant I was committing to two years of a voice/data plan. So what you are telling me is that I can bring my own phone to Verizon, sign up for a voice or data (or both) plan and have no minimum time commitment - I can cancel the plan at any time without a termination charge...

Wow, I need to get out more!  :smileywink:

Gotcha! I don't actually plan to DO this right now, since I just bought a Droid Charge that I am generally happy with. But it's good to know just in case.

Thanks again for the guidance.

I have sold quite a few phones on ebay, most with good luck and no hassle. I made good money too.  There were a couple that didn't sell, but those were cheap feature phones.  Just make sure the ESN is clear before you buy or sell.  In other words the bill must be paid,  including any ETF if you cancelled early.  If you are going to buy one get the ESN from the seller and verify it is clean with VZW before you buy, otherwise you will end up with a nice paper weight.

So for all you sage predictors out there, do you still predict the Samsung Galaxy SII to arrive at VZW on 9-8-2011?  I am sure waiting for it, but I know I won't hear a thing from Verizon...except for my text alerts to remind me about my monthly bill.

i keep my old devices in lieu of getting insurance and cases and stuff. then if something happens that isn't covered under warranty, i can just activate the old one.

Hmmm...if you could have figured the VZW trade price out, as you obviously have done, why did you ask??  :smileyindifferent:

Hello SandraW and Community!

When you do upgrade to a new phone, you can always keep it as a back up/alternate phone.

You can trade the phone in

You can give it to a friend/family member

You can sell it

It all depends on what you want to do with the phone. There are quite a few options.
