4g LTE not working while Wifi enabled

I have a Droid Bionic and a Droid RAZR 16GB.  Lately, I noticed on the RAZR that the 4G LTE icon is gray whenever I have wifi turned on, but comes back to life when I turn wifi off.  On the Bionic, I have the 4G LTE icon lit up even when wifi is on.  There is an app called Motorola Restore Connectivity Settings on the Play Store that advertises that it is specifically for the Droid RAZR (among others), yet, when I try to install it, Play Store tells me it is not valid for my phone.  I should be able to have 4G working for phone calls even if Wifi is on, yet I can't seem to correct it.  I've tried modifying the settings, rebooting, and resetting the phone, but the moment I start Wifi, the 4G icon goes gray and test apps tell me I do not have 4G connectivity, even though I live in a strong 4G area.

Any suggestions on what might be causing this - or how I can install the Connectivity app through the back door, so to speak, would be greatly appreciated.

Are you saying that you cannot make calls when WiFi is turned on?  WiFi should have no effect on making and receiving calls.

From your description this is normal behavior. With WiFi turned on and connected the WiFi notification icon should be blue and the 4G/3G/1X should be gray.  With WiFi disconnected then the 4G/3G/1X icon will be blue.  Phone calls are made using 1X and not 4G.  4G is only for data (which WiFi handles too).  So even though your 4G is gray you should be able to make and receive calls.

what breezex said. The wifi should not affect calling. On most newer phones, the 4GLTE symbol will not be visible but your voice calls should work. If you are having problems past this, you should call into customer service. At times having wifi on and not being connected will give you some errors. i only experienced that back on Gingerbread (Android 2.3).

Hey there BadWolf03, I have the Droid Razr myself and I absolutely love it and I want yours working to the point where you love it too.

The community members are correct, the 4G LTE icon will only be highlighted when connected to the 4G Network.  When connected to WiFi the 4G icon will grey out and the WiFi icon will be highlighted.

What is going on with your phone calls? Are you not recieving them? Or having signal issues?

Please provide additional details so we can continue to assist.

I may be sort of in the same boat, but would like more clarification from VZWSupport (maybe this thread is too old now?).

I have a Droid 4, and normally do not hang out in areas that have Wi-Fi, so I use the 4G connection for my data (email, internet, contacts sync, etc). But I have a device that I remote control using my Droid over Wi-Fi, so I have Wi-Fi turned on. I still get data, and am able to do high bandwidth things like viewing YouTube videos, surfing the Web, etc. Since there is no Wi-Fi where I am, the data connection MUST be over the 4G (or 3G?) connection, no?

Today (July 9, 2013) I suddenly lost data connectivity, and had very low signal strength. I called Verizon tech support and was told to turn Wi-Fi OFF, because "you will not get 4G if Wi-Fi is ON". I did turn Wi-Fi OFF, but still no data connection. Then the Verizon agent did something at her end to 'reset the switch', and then I got 4G data connectivity.

The Verizon agent could not tell me if it was only 4G that was affected by having Wi-Fi ON; I wondered of the data connectivity I had been getting with Wi-Fi ON was perhaps over 3G instead of 4G; I probably would not have noticed the icon as long as things seemed to be working.

I would like to know the hard and fast 'rules' regarding all of this, for future reference.....
