Advance Calling 1.0

So I just got this update, and surprise it still doesn't allow voice and data at the same time.  So I chatted with a rep, and surprise this only works if your on an HD call with another HD compatible phone.  Now either the rep has no idea what they are talking about which is not unusual for Verizon reps or Verizon deceived it's turbo customers, which I would not put past them as they have lied to me on several occasions.

A software update for the DROID Turbo by Motorola will be pushed out in phases starting today. The update enables Advanced Calling 1.0 so customers can enjoy HD Voice and Video Calling with other compatible Verizon smartphones. The update also enables simultaneous voice and data use so customers can talk and surf the web at the same time. Customers will be able to manually download and install the software update later today by going to Settings > System Updates > Check for System Updates.

To be honest, I could care less about this feature as I never found myself on a call and then doing something that required data, but the point is Verizon was never clear on this.

The HD calling feature is only available to call other hd comp. phones.   However the option to surf the internet and talk on phone has nothing to do with the hd calling part.  you will be bale to make calls and surf the web regardless of the hd choice

Well like I said in the original post, it does not work.  And the Verizon Rep said it would not work.

I agree with nytq. Actually the option to surf the internet and talk on the phone DOES have something to do with the HD calling part. It is ONLY with HD calls that you will be able to do both.

The simultaneous voice/data is only available while on an HD(Advanced Calling 1.0 call). This is because the voice is already being sent via data(VoLTE), a bit more data is not going to mean a whole lot.

When on a regular voice call, the problem with only having 1 antenna is still going to prevent you from getting simultaneous voice/data just as before. The CDMA and 4G LTE radios cannot use the single antenna at the same time. When you have VoLTE and simultaneous data, i.e. HD voice(Advanced Calling 1.0), the only radio using the antenna is the 4G LTE radio and you don't have the conflict.Smiley Happy

Samsung added the extra antenna needed to do so; Motorola didn't on the Droid Turbo and Moto X 2nd gen (2014).

CORRECTION

AFTER SOME TINKERING, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO WORK.  YOU HAVE TO BE ON A 4G LTE SIGNAL TO MAKE A CALL AND THEN BROWSE THE WEB FOR INSTANCE.  IF YOU START A CALL WITH A 3G OR 1X ICON, THEN YOU WILL GET THE ERROR MESSAGE.  STILL AMAZING THAT VERIZON CANNOT TELL YOU THAT.  BUT LIKE I SAID BEFORE, REALLY DOESN'T SURPRISE ME. YOU CAN CALL VERIZON 5 TIMES ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE AND GET 5 DIFFERENT ANSWERS.

Be thankful you get a preprinted stock reply from Verizon...good or bad. The Community Forum group does a large share of the job for Verizon after the sale. And a good job in most cases.

I got the update yesterday and have tried making a phone call when I have 4G LTE signal but still am not able to use data while on the phone, is there something else you did to get it to work?
