You can open the email or gmail app and go into its setting and turn off notifications or change the ringtone to silent.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
In the natural course of events I check my e-mail with sufficient frequency for my own purposes. I seldom receive e-mails of such urgency that I must look at them immediately! So how do I listen to a song or an audio book without the constant interruption of the "boink – backstep”? I went into the settings for Yahoo mail and unchecked the " Show Notifications" and my music or audio book is still interrupted! At this time I can see no option other than " Force Stop" or uninstalling – neither of which is an acceptable option.
If your device is on Silent or Vibrate you won't get the audible notifications. Can you set up a Smart Action to do that when you turn on your audio player? I don't use Smart Actions so I can't test it.
I can see how that "boink" could get pretty annoying, Breglad. The setting to show notifications usually refers to the notification you see in the notification bar at the top of the device. Are you using Yahoo's mail application or the email option that came with the device? When you go into that Yahoo mail settings, do you see an option to change the sound played with a new email? Or possibly an option to turn off the automatic email retrieval and set it to manual?
