Yesterday I noticed my phone was running hot, so I rebooted and the phone cooled down. I had to recharge last night because my phone was at 30% within 24 hours from full charge the day before. Normally my battery takes 2 days to reach that level. I use smart actions to turn off data, sync, and wifi for 8 hrs nightly. My battery was at 40% this morning after 8 hours off charger, when wifi, sync and data were disabled. So I charged the phone again.Three hours off charger it is at 80%, making 2 calls lasting a total of 15 minutes. My battery usage app shows Google plus using 20% of battery, but I haven't used Google plus. It also shows Facebook at 16%, but I don't use Facebook as I don't even have a Facebook account! These are the 2 highest usages shown on the battery usage app. Could it be the something went awry with the JB update which is just showing up now? I am considering a factory reset to see if that helps. I have been running JB since the first day the update was available, with no problems. Is there a way to back up the apps before reset, or should I just reload from the Playstore/ Amazon app store?

Sometimes updates turn things on that you had turned off, so you might want to check all your settings.
If you aren't using Google+ or Facebook, you might want to disable them, i.e., manage apps > all, select app, then Clear Cache and Clear Data. Force Stop, then Disable (if you don't see Disable to the right of Force Stop, then it should say Uninstall Updates; click that and once the updates are uninstalled, the button should say Disable). Disabled apps are moved to the bottom of your app list in case you need to re-enable them, and they won't appear in your app drawer.

My phone was upgraded this morning to 4.1.2. Ever since my phone is running hot and the battery life is dropping like a rock. I started today with 77%, currently down to 3%. Verizon suggested I turn off GPS, bluetooth and WiFi. Even though I have always run with those on and no noticable battery issues, I turned them off. Didn't help. I suspect all are related. I hope enough of us "complain" so that this issue rises to the top of fixes.

That's interesting that VZW told you to turn everything off, what then is the purpose of a smart phone? I'm going to try a hard reset since yesterday I went to bed with 90% battery and wifi, sync and data disabled and it was 30% this am with no use of the phone whatsoever in 8 hrs. The reason we got the Razr Maxx was for the battery, so this is unacceptable. If battery life doesn't improve after a hard reset I am going to exchange for another Maxx

Do a factory reset, only add back those apps that you really use, disable the Facebook app, and give it a day or two to settle down. After a factory reset and maybe after a major upgrade Gmail syncs all of your mail and contacts, Google+ resyncs all of your pictures, etc., and any other app that uses cloud storage probably updates too. So I'm not surprised Google+ is a big user. Battery usage usually is high for the first day or two after an update. Also don't rule out a rogue app not playing fair with Jelly Bean.

I did a factory reset, but put all the apps back on. If I'm still losing battery life, I'll do another factory reset and put apps on that I use only. I'm recharging now , but so far my battery widget doesn't show
Google plus at all, or Facebook in battery usage. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

@spurs21, It sounds like your battery is acting up. Lets go ahead and put it in its place. I see that you have already done a factory reset.
