Display Protectors and why I almost returned my MAXX

I bought two Razr Maxx's, one for myself, one for my wife.

The Sales Rep put screen protectors on both, and with our New Maxx's and various accessories we where out the door.  Happy that we had upgraded from the HTC Incredibes that had served us well.

Then I started to notice that the screen clarity on this Maxx was challenged as compared to what I was used to on the HTC Incredible.

I read somewhere, where someone described it was like looking through a chain link fence...

Then, someone replied to me (and I can't find that reply just now) that it might be the screen protector....

This was the Display Protector applied that made the screen a challenge to see sometimes, and almost had me returning the device:

Anti-Glare Display Protectors (3-Pack)

This is the Display Protector I now have on it, and must say the Maxx is much more readable:

Anti-Scratch Display Protectors (3-Pack)

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessory?action=accessoryDetails&archetypeId=12828&accesso...

I don't use my phone outdoors, so the Anti-Glare screen was not the correct screen for how I use my phone.

Word of advice to you sales folks at Verizon...:  ASK your customer what Screen Protector would fit how they use the device... and for old guys like me with Glasses... The Anti-Glare Display Protector... WRONG CHOICE....

There are 2 camps of people on"protectors"  - those that use them out of fear of damaging the screen, and those that don't because of the quality of the glass (Gorilla) .. Personally I don't use the protectors -  Had 1 on my DX for about 1 month & removed it. It was flawless for 18 months; not a scratch.  I like the images on the screen WITHOUT a protector on it .. Also, the swiping motion across a screen without a protector just seems better, more predictable, to me anyway...  Enjoy ...

I had ready about the two different protectors before I bought my Maxx.  When the sales rep started to put the protector on, I clarified with him that it was the anti-scratch not the anti-glare.  He verified what I had read that the anti glare does in fact diminish the sharpness of the Maxx's screen.  I have since bought an Otter Box case which has a built in protector.  I left the original protector on and all seems fine.  I hope you are enjoying your new Maxx.

Your story sounds about like mine. Both my wife and I got the MAXX, but at different times. We got hers first, and when they asked us about accessories, we said "Sure" about the screen protectors, but we were never asked about which one we wanted. Well, the girl ended up putting the anti-glare protector on it. When I got mine a few days later (We were due on different days), the guy at the store I went to asked me if I wanted protectors, and I told him that my wife got it the other day and it made the display darker, and he told me about the 2 different ones. He said "I don't know why you got the anti-glare ones, everyone around here has been returning them because it makes the screen too dark to see, so we do not recommend them anymore.."

It just goes to show that everyplace is different, and every salesperson is different, and every experience is different... Of course, this is the same guy that was so busy talking, we spent 1/2 an hour doing my upgrade, and then he looked down and realized that he was setting up the original RAZR, not the MAXX as I had requested, so he had to cancel that upgrade and do it all over again with the right phone.... Boy, there is my $60 worth of upgrade fees working hard for me as the customer.....

no need for screen protectors.

the cut down the sensitivy of the screen, and change the looks

i leave em for the apple folk that are afraid of dust on thier phone

I like to use screen protectors.  From my understanding Gorilla Glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof also my nieces and nephews use my phone alot for apps and games and kids are messy! lol

i use them, but i use cheap/generic ones i find online. they seem to be much thinner, like they aren't even there....but still take the scratches, rather than the glass. i use no case so i at least want protection on the glass. i had an envy touch without a screen protector and i scratched the heck out of it in just 6 months. obviously the screens are better today, but they can still scratch.
