Droid MAXX OS Update Jelly Bean FATAL MISTAKE

HORRIBLE, INCONVENIENT, HUGE DROP IN VALUE OF PHONE

After the automatic update, thanks for the warning, most apps that I was aware of did not function correctly.  The apps would freeze the whole OS.  The phone would have to be powered down and started up minutes later.  Several system freezes would not allow the phone to power off.  FRUSTRATING!  The keyboard voice input does not work.  I called my provider who advised the phone needed a hard reset.  ARGH!!! I had to delete all information, including downloaded apps, from my phone.  Of course a few folders were salvaged but text message history GONE, my favorite apps with my information GONE, the once familiarity personalized use of the phone GONE, using the keyboard in text messages, email, and user name/password account information was a NIGHTMARE! Swipe was USELESS.  I was forced to use the Android keyboard according to the second of seven reps I spoke with that night.  I informed the rep the Android keyboard is not responding to keys pressed.  All settings for the keyboard were misconfigured.  I am through with having to accommodate an uninvited update that caused me mental anguish.  I spent over five hours total on the phone with the provider trying to solve the new update bugs.  DROID FAILED MISERABLY!!!  I pay more than most other providers and I expect to get what I pay for.  QA should be held accountable for the programming and authorized release.  The update was a HUGE MISTAKE that must be answered for.  Investors will be made aware of the nationwide anguish over the product.  Why has there not been any public announcement? or recall? or reimbursement for lost information and hours speaking to your call center reps that were, no fault of their own, completely caught off guard.  UNETHICAL to say the least.  Regret  will be at your doorstep in the morning with news cameras and reporters dying to get your response to a problem that was brought to your attention weeks earlier and nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, has been done to resolve the faulty update.

Completely disgusted,

Jake

(now to call up my local news stations on the television and radio to report)

The Jelly Bean update  n my MAXXupdate went easy, I only had 1 problem with an app not working, and Motorola tech support helped me solve the issue.

<< Comment removed >>  Unfortunately any update to the OS of a portable computer and that is essentially what these new cell phones are will not go smoothly for everyone. Just like when Microsoft has these update Tuesdays. Many times the fix for one thing screws up something else. ie: your apps and files.

If you took the precaution of backing up the data and apps and files to your home computer or removable sd card half the issues would have been fixable. In your apps situation Google backs them up for you as well as contacts and calendar and gmail and Google+ so nothing lost there.

A possible solution to the freeze ups could be doing a hard reset or clearing the cache and then letting the phone completely power up. Again you are not the only one having these issues and its not just on Motorola phones but Samsungs and HTC the os which is Google generated is in most cases totally ok on update. More people would be complaining if as you think its a widespread problem But evidently its not.

The other issue is many owners have cried they want Jelly Bean, and Ice Cream Sandwich before that. Now Key Lime Pie and you cannot please everyone. With all the gripes regarding we want and we want it now and then they get it, and whammo they get the update they come back here and curse it as its the cause of all their phone problems. People cannot have it both ways.

I am sympathetic  to your plight but the cure may be bringing it into the Verizon corporate store and have them look at it. Its a shame you cannot have a roll back option to the prior os.

And your payment to Verizon is not a big deal. We all pay the provider.

I think a lot of customers were caught by surprise with the JB update. I was lucky enough to prepare for the update by making backups and reinstalled my apps that were still compatible with JB from the app store. There were evidently many, like yourself, that weren't so fortunate. I hope you can get it straightened out.

Just a heads up and for future notice. Before ever doing a FDR (Factory Date Reset) or Hard Reset, you should always complete these steps first as they are more then likely able to correct any issues you are having.

1) Battery Pull (for fixed Battery phones, you would do the Simulated Battery Pull)

2) if this does NOT work, do a Cache Wipe which will clear out all unused code and any left over code. (You lose nothing on doing this and could save yourself from the FDR)

I also have a Motorola Droid Razr Maxx that I bought about 15 months ago.  Before doing the JB update, I did a factory reset and cleared out the cache.  I then did the JB update and automatically restored all my apps from the Play Store.  My phone works perfectly and I have had zero problems.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with the JB update.
