There should be an option within the information for each person in the People app to select the ringtone for the contact. You might have to open it in edit mode to add the ringtone.

Customizing your ringtones can be fun JBJB01! To customize a ringtone to a specific contact on your phone, simply follow the steps below.
1. Tap on the contacts icon.
2. Tap on a contact.
3. Select edit.
4. Tap on ringtone
5. Select desired ringtone and tap save.

Thank you.
However, I was referring to adding a ringtone from the music file, or a
personal ringtone, more specifically...I do not like the device or phone
ringtones.
How do I transfer a music ringtone from my phone files to a contact?
Please advise. I want to add a personal song to a specific contact.
Thank you

You have to copy the music file to the ringtones folder on the internal memory space of the phone. Once there the phone will recognize it will add it to the ringtone selection list. Then you can use the steps above to edit the contact information of the person to add the ringtone as their personal ringtone.
You might need to download a file explorer app from the Play Store to copy files around on the phone itself if you don't want to hook it up to a computer.

Thank you so much. One more thing... can you provide instructions on the
first recommendation ? I appreciate your patience and instruction. I am
technically challenged... but trying.

Which first recommendation?

You may find ringtones you like on the Zedge app from Play store. It automatically downloads to your ringtone page along with default pre-loaded tones. Same for notification tones.

Hi JBJB01,
I'd be happy to provide you with instructions for setting a ringtone other than what's already available in the "ringtones" list. Just to confirm, what kind of device do you have?
If you have an Android, you may need to download a third party app to be able to set other music files to your ringtone. If you have another model, the instructions may be different.
Please let us know so we can guide you with the correct information!
Thank you,
