One problem with this Jake - Google is already too invasive - and the way they shuffle personal data as well as change and delete programs at their whim? Google is also unreliable.
I want to drag and drop contacts (or entire phonebook) to my PC.

Google is no more invasive then Verizon is. Verizon takes your contacts that you have listed in Backup Assistant, and uses them to market to (many threads on that here as well as other sites).
My only issues with Backup Assistant besiades this are:
It mixes up all of my contacts
It does NOT back up all of my contacts
It drops addressed or emails from my contacts
It always loaded OLD contacts that were deleted and thrown away on BA's site
It does NOT format the contacts the same as it backs them up
Google:
Automatically backs up the contact as entered
Can export the contacts
Can Sync with Outlook or other email contact manager programs
Does NOT mix up the contacts
Does NOT delete them
Does NOT drop portions of them
I guess there are pluses and minuses to both depending on how you want to use it though.

Jake's correct it's all in how they work for the individual for me B.A, just wasn't that good and I had issues with it the first six months of Owning my Droid X when I factory reset'd my Droid X.. I dropped B.A for good and went fully with Google
