You might also have to clear the security credentials from the phone prior to removing the screen lock altogether. Some application also require a screen lock in order to work.

From a Home screen, navigate: Apps icon Apps icon > Settings Settings icon.

From the Personal section, tap Security.

Note If presented, enter the current PIN, password or pattern.

From the Screen security section, tap Screen lock.

Tap None.

If presented with "Remove unlock..." prompt, tap OK.

Yes, when I tested this on my GS6 it reset the device to no password and my MobileIron app then required me to enter in a new password/pattern.
