Interference/distortion when using earbuds to listen to streaming radio

I am getting some kind of distortion/interference when using earbuds to listen to streaming radio.  I can hear the speech from the radio but there is an "other worldly" type sound in the background.  This problem doesn't occur immediately but after a short period of time and then is constant.  I've tried a variety of earbuds from difference manufacturers with both wired and wireless connections but the problem is unchanged.

Could it be the equalizer?  My Razr Maxx had an EQ built in that had several preset sound shapers and one was either wide/live/concert/surround....sounded really strange.

I have the Razr M and don't know if it has the equalizer or, if it does, how to adjust the settings?  I might add that the sound is just fine through the phone speaker and problem only surfaces when using earbuds.

I found the sound setting and turned off special effects--that seems to have solved the problem!  Thank you!!

BTW, my local Verizon store failed to figure this out.

The EQ only works with the headphones.
