The home screen gives you all your latest information in one place. It’s what you see when you turn on the smartphone or touch Home key from a menu. It’s basically like this:

Note: Your home screen might look a little different.

Use and change your home screen

On your home screen, shortcuts are icons that open your favorite apps, web bookmarks, contacts, mail labels, or music playlists. Widgets show you news, weather, messages, and other updates.

To see other panels of shortcuts and widgets, flick the home screen left or right. Or, touch Home key and touch a thumbnail to go to the panel.

  • To open something, touch it. Touch Home key to return to the home screen.Tip: When you open a widget, touch Menu key to see any options or settings (you can choose accounts for Calendar, Social Networking, Social Status, or Universal Inbox widgets).
  • To resize widgets, touch and hold a corner until you feel a vibration, then drag.Image
  • To add something or change your wallpaper, touch and hold an empty spot until you see the Add to Home screen menu. You can add a folder to organize your shortcuts.
  • To move or delete something, touch and hold it until you feel a vibration, then drag it to another spot, another panel, or the trash Image at the top of the screen.

Shortcuts in the dock row at the bottom of the home screen always appear in all panel views. You can change the dock shortcuts (except for the launcher icon Image that opens the app menu). Touch and hold a dock shortcut, then select the shortcut you want to replace it. Change the wallpaperNeed a change of scenery? Change your wallpaper whenever you like. You can select from Live (animated) wallpapers, standard wallpapers, or pictures from your Gallery.

  1. From the Home screen, touch the menu key> Wallpaper.
  2. Browse through the choices, touch the picture to use, and then touch Set wallpaper.

Another way to access this option is to touch and hold a blank area on your Home screen, then touchWallpapers.

Note: If your battery is low, temporarily change animated wallpaper to a static image to save power.

What "tools" icon, and what do you mean by "recycle bin"? There is no "recycle bin". Are you talking about an icon on your Home Screen? You can put any icon on your home screens by clicking on APPS, and then find the app icon there, press and hold until the Home Screen appears, and then you can move it where you want.

I believe the "Tools" icon that you removed was a folder that contained some icons of useful tools.  Nothing is lost.  Just create a new folder on your home screen (or another screen), name it Tools, and put useful things from the App drawer in the folder.  When you put things in a folder they are not moved just "short-cuts" are created like a PC.  It's been a while since I had a Tools folder and I no longer remember what it contained.

Here's how it works on my RAZR M.  Go to a screen with some room, from the App Drawer add an app to the screen by touching the icon and holding down, move it to a screen of your choice.  Go back to the App Drawer, get another app icon and move it to the same screen and put it on top of the previous icon, a folder is created.  You can also just drag icons from the screen to the folder and vice versa.  Add more icons until you have everything you want in the folder.  The folder will probably be named "Unnamed Folder".  To change that touch the folder and then touch the text at the bottom.  A keyboard will open allowing you to name the folder.
