Motorola Razr M Reception Problems

I have had my Razor M for a couple of months now and from day one I could never get more than two bars of reception and only one bar most of the time while inside, also the call quality is terrible. Have been to the Verizon store 3 times for them to tell me that there is nothing they can do to help me even though it was showing poor reception while in the store. This is a brand new phone right out of the box...my wife and I both got one and are both having the same problem. However we got our daughter an HTC Rhyme and that phone always has full bars and the call quality is phenomenal. We live in a small city where Verizon towers are everywhere, I should not be having this problem. We have about had our fill of Verizon and Motorola and why this issue cannot be fixed.

"Verizon Towers EVERYWHERE"  are you sure?  I mean really sure?  Last I checked none of the towers in my small town were Verizon towers, they belonged to some guy over in India or Pakistan!  The next time I checked the only named carrier was a USCELL tower.  The rest were not identified with any phone company.  3G best here, 4G in major cities or along encapsulated routes here in NC.  I'd say switch the phone from GLOBAL to CDMA mode and see if you get better signal.  It helped mine after a few hours on phone with tech support.  Phone was acting better with the towers locally then.

Pretty sure about the ownership of the towers because the smaller local company that put them up was bought out by Verizon. That is beside the point my Galaxy S before this phone had absolutely no problems from day one. Signal strength was always 100% at home and at work the only time I ever lost a signal on it was while in the mountains around Gatlinburg, TN.. Why would the Galaxy have such good reception right here in my home and the Razr M have only one bar and the calls are barely audible? Like I said before my daughters HTC Rhyme phone that was purchased at the same time has absolutely no reception problems sitting right here in our home.

You Might try a Different Sim Card see how that Works...

Do you know how I could go about getting one of those? The reps at the local corporate store have already told me that there is nothing they can do for me, even though I can search the internet and now find this to be a widespread problem with these phones they apparently do not have that ability. I was hoping to connect with a Verizon rep here that could help.

By the way this is the first phone I have ever had that needed a SIM card so I am new to that as well.

Well you try another Verizon Corporate Store if you have one in the Area or Call Tech Services 1-800-922-0204 option 3 and have a Tech send one out to you tell the tech how the phone is operating and you want to see if it's the Sim that is causing the Issue you will have to give the Tech your full account information so they can proceed with the ticket and send the Sim out ask the tech Rep. if it can be sent priority because they will put your account info on the New Card the old might still be active but it doesn't hurt to ask the Rep..

Is the store you are going to a VZW corporate store or one of the authorised retailer which will appear to look like a VZW corporate store.  There is a big difference and if you ask them they will give you a new sim and probably even install it for you. If it is an authorised retailer he will probably want to charge you $10.00 for the sim as the one does here in town.  Take a look at the dbm level in the settings of your phone and see just how strong your signal is really.  Compare that reading with the similar reading in your daughters phone.  If yours are exceptionally high 100 -  105 then you need to call and talk to tech support so they can figure out what the issue is with your phone.  Did you recently get a software update?

You are correct on the ownership of the towers.  I have been to many of the towers in several different states over the past few months.  All the towers I have visited are not owned by VZW.  VZW just leases space on the tower to place the equipment and a small space on the ground to place equipment to connect to the local phone lines be it copper or fiber.  There will also be other carriers on that tower as well that does the same as VZW be it Sprint, TMOB or at&t.  We also have a similar thing going on here where I live in SE NM but VZW sells the towers and only keeps the equipment they use.  Most of the tower here are owned by someone else before VZW purchased the assets of the smaller cell company.  There are some deviations from the normal but if you see more than one level of equipment on the tower it is more than likely more than 1 carrier on the tower that leases his space from the tower owner.  Usually on the chainlink fence is a sign which states the name and number to call in case of emergency.
