Hello. Can someone tell me how to permanently delete contact phone numbers? My device won't allow it. I go to edit the contact and delete a number, but I am told that the file is read only and cannot delete it. WTF. How can I proceed. Please advise. THANKS in advance.

What is the source of the contact? If it comes from linked in, facebook, etc. you won't be able to edit the contact information.

Thanks for answering. I don't back up any of my contacts from social media sites. They are numbers I added myself to the phone, I also chose to save to the back up cloud when I do so. Funny thing is that when I check the cloud contacts on the phone, the deletion takes hold and the old number is gone. But when I want to send a text or dial a number, my device gives me all the numbers for a contact, which is confusing because I don't remember which are the old numbers and which are valid.

Sounds like the other apps on your phone are caching the data from your contacts then. Eventually it should clear up or you could try wiping your contacts application cache or even backing up your contacts and clearing data and cache on contacts and see if the problem resolves.
