Ive had my Droid razr for a little over a month now. I woke up today and my phone was shut off and it wouln't turn on by the power button. It had 60% battery before I fell asleep last night. has anyone had this happen to their phone before? Does this mean my phone is defective and I need to take it to the store? If anyone has any feedback I'd greatly appericate it

Thanks

Put it on the charger for an hour or two and then press both the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds.  That has fixed this before.  The power and vol down force a reboot.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I also had this same problem today and was grateful to read your post and answer.  Holding the power button along with the Volume Down button worked for me also after a few seconds.  Note that you have to hit the Volume down not both volume buttons at the same time.  I found out that's what I was doing wrong.

My Droid RAZR started having this problem 2 or 3 days ago. The past two mornings I found the phone completely discharged, even though it began the night near 100%. Using Battery Monitor I find that something is using a lot of current. It  charges much more slowly now, and at times I find it is discharging even while plugged in. Usually that happens only when the wireless connection is in use.

Most of the battery power is being used by the com.motorola.service.activesync service, which I believe is Motorola Blur. This is new, that was never at the top of the list before. It is not using the wireless connection (I have a widget to show that). Something changed a few days ago, and I wish I knew what it was. I've already uninstalled any apps installed within the last month, to no avail. The Blur service can't be stopped or removed, of course.

What is your sleep setting for your display?  I keep mine on 10 minutes because I hit the power button every time I finish using my phone.
