Razr vs. Razr Maxx Signal

I recently upgraded from a Razr to the Maxx.  I love the battery, BTW!  Anyway, I regularly travel into an area with Extended 1X Data Coverage.  With the Razr, I had data service, could surf the web and get emails - albeit slowly.  Several weeks ago, in that area, I had my Razr and a buddy had a Maxx.  I had 1X coverage, but he had no data service.  Yesterday we were both in the same area (Western MD), both with the Maxx, and neither of us had data service.  Although I thought the phones were identical, except for the battery, now I don't believe that is true.  Anyone else had this issue, or found a solution??

I've had similar issues starting with my Razr and now on my Maxx as well. There seems to be some sort of issue with either Razr and the towers in certain areas. Are the areas you're having issues slated for a 4G upgrade soon? Sorry I don't have the link but on one of the forums or on VZW's website there is a list of upcoming upgrades.

It doesn't appear so.   There is a big whole in VZ data coverage in Western MD for some reason.

Well that's a drag. There are differences phone to phone. Not every shot of solder or cast of silicon lands just right. Just the vagaries of electronics.

I have been working with tech support on this issue . Its very common with the new Maxx and Motorola is working on it . Or so im told . I guess im too impatient for that and expect service where ive always had service so I returned the phone . The funny thing is that 5 others were doing the same while i was waiting in the store . Hmmm what a black eye to motorola and Verizion . Hopefully they iron out these issues soon . Good Luck !!!

We want you to enjoy a reliable data connection Brshoe! Please be assured all of our compatible handsets are designed equally in terms of signal strength and connectivity. Certain handsets may respond better than others in a particular area; however, it is not a result of device settings or the design of the device.

Are you experiencing these difficulties only in this specific location? If so it is likely location based, not device based. Please keep in mind additionally, we do not own or maintain the towers in an extended network area; therefore, our control is limited. If you find the problem persists in mutiple Verizon Wireless areas, please let us know.

Sincerely,

According to your tech support there are known issues with this devise. The support came to the conclusion that I was having devise issues due to the towers were in multiple locations plus my original droid x didn’t loose connectivity in these areas . I spoke with several and in the store in which I dealt they had 5 of them returned for the same issue but the people were on different towers . If you read the blogs the Razor Maxx has this issue and I was one of the unlucky customers to experience it . I am sure it will be resolved soon .

Just today i started having problems with getting a signal when I have always had signal where I live up until today... I dont quite understand why all of a sudden that it's deciding to not get any tower signal at all.

@ DeniseE08 if you haven't already, try clearing the cache - that does seem to be helping some folks. There is an update/patch on the way but I don't know of an ETA for release.

  • Press and hold the Power button and turn the phone off.
  • When the screen turns off, press and hold Volume Up/Down and Power.
  • When the white HBOOT screen appears, use the volume down button to move down to “RECOVERY.”
  • Press the Volume Up button to select “RECOVERY.”
  • When the triangle and exclamation appears, hold the Volume Up and Power button at the same time.
  • Using the volume button, scroll down to “Wipe cache partition”
  • Use the Power button select it.
  • After that is done select “Reboot system now.”
