Two Problems with An Otherwise Great Phone

1. I have been having problems getting a message that my SD card was unexpectedly removed. (Not the exact wording but close enough) I can tell by looking at the Gallery that it isn't lying because I can tell instantly that half of the photos are missing.I have to turn off the phone, remove it from its case and then pull the strip weather strip on the left side open to give me access to system SD and the additional storage SD. The SD is tightly in place, but I still have to pop it out by pushing in a little and raising the end and letting go. I completely remove the SD and replace it pushing it in and down making sure the spring has locked. I turn the phone back on and all is well but it will happen again. There does not seem to be a pattern to when this happens.

2. This is probably the hard question or problem. I had started having problems with my home Internet provider (Fairpoint). My two desktops and two laptops would no longer connect to the Internet. I have a Wi-Fi home network setup using NETGEAR wireless. My DSL router is connected directly to  my  wireless router. The two laptops are wireless, a new desktop is both Ethernet and wireless and my older desktop is Ethernet. I have wireless printers, a ROKU live streaming box, Blu-Ray DVD player all hooked connected wireless. One day, all the PC's stopped connecting to the internet. They were all connected and confirmed to the wireless router. The DSL indicators showed the internet was up and all the other devices worked. ROKU would connect to both Netflix and Amazon Prime. After talking to Fairpoint internet support for a while, they had me log into the each PC and go to my wireless network connection properties. There I had to go to the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) properties and change one setting. I had to deselect  "Obtain DNS server address automatically" by selecting "Use the following DNS server addresses". The Preferred DNS server was set to 66.243.238.22 and the Alternate DNS server set to 137.118.1.32. Everything was rebooted and everything connected to the wireless as usual, including mine and my wifes phone (Droid Incredible). Everything including all of the PC's connected to the Internet, but now none of the phones connect. The phones are on the wireless network but they will NOT work with any software requiring Internet connectivity like Chrome or the Facebook app and the weather apps. I cannot find anywhere on the phone where you can set Internet Protocol properties or setting DNS server addresses. I live way out in the woods and have a weak phone signal. Sometimes 3g, sometimes 1g but mostly no g, but I can still get a very slow connection to the internet with the phone set to Mobile Data, but that costs money. Can any networking guru help me out here? I can sure use it. For those that took the time to read through all of this, thank you.

Just responding to your first question on the SD card unmounting. Try copying all files/folders to your computer, reformat your SD card (while it is your device), then copy back those files you want to the correct folders. Good Luck!

We want you to enjoy reliable performance from your device papajack51! How long ago did this start? Do you power cycle the device daily? Are you using a particular app or function when it occurs? Have you tested an alternate memory card? How about your memory card in another device? We will figure this out!

Following several recent ap updates I discovered my RazrM was not responding to blurtooth correctly. I could not hear callers when I answered via the bluetooth, nor could I call them, although it appeared sounds were coming from the phone. I decided to cycle the phone power to see if that would help and now I get a "SD CArd Unexpectedly removed" error shortly after powering up and reading the card. The delay to that error varies, and it will not read the card if I remove and reinsert it. Instead, I have to recycle the phone power, and it will shortly later give the error again. I tried reading the card via USB connection, and it does not show up, but removing the card I can read it easiloy when inserted in a computer. No changes have been made to this card in quite some time, since I last added a song maybe 5 months ago, and it was working fine until these latest updates. Any ideas?

What is the current software version number (System version) of your Droid Razr M http://vz.to/177T5KX?  Have you tried hard resetting http://vz.to/1boPQkX the device after completing the latest software update?  Keep me posted.

It turned out that the problem was the SD card. I replaced it with a new

one and have had no further problems with the "unexpectedly removed" error.

Another question, if I have Skype or other similar ap loaded, whenever I try

to initiate a call in the car using BlueTooth and speaking the name I want

to call, the phone responds with the correct name and says it is

calling...but nothng happens. If I look at the phone a pop-up message is

asking if I want to complete the call using Skype or Verizon and I have to

make the selection on the phone by hand, which obviously is a driving

distraction. On the older version of Android I think there was an option to

not make calls over the internet unless connected to WiFi, but I cannot find

a similar option on the current version 4.1.2. Is there a way to do this and

avoid that pop up question?

I'm glad you got that issue resolved with the SD card Beargap. I understand using the phone is a distraction when driving. Let's see what's going on with the applications when using Bluetooth. Are you logged into Skype, or which ever application you're using? Do you get a promt to always use, or just once? Does this happen when placing regular phone calls or text messages? Please try un-pairing Bluetooth and un-installing application, restart phone, then try using again. Let's see if this helps. Please keep us posted.

I had this same problem when I had Skype installed, even when not logged in,

and had to delete that application. Now it is occurring with a similar ap

called Pinger when they recently added capability to make internet calls,

which I never do. The prompt requires 2 "button" pushes, one to say "make

the call with Verizon" and a second to say "always", but it comes up with

every new call if I haven't called that number since the update.

Thanks for clarifying Beargap. This is actually how the device is meant to function. However, if you were to disable Skype & Pinger, this selection would no longer appear when bluetooth is activated. To confirm, you can delete both apps and then retry to review what will appear. If the apps are desired, simply readd. Please keep us posted, thanks!

Wow, I was about to ask this question about my SD card and once on site I see that I asked the question I was going to tonight back in October and have had a lot of good responses, none of which I've tried yet. I totally forgot and don't know where my mind has been the last few months.

I fixed the second question about the the IP settings I had to set up in each of my laptops to connect, but since I could not find a place in the phone to setup IP address settings for Internet, they would not work. I ended up setting the IP addresses up in my Wi-Fi for Internet setup and now all the phones work along with the PC's by having a common point to go through for this setting.

I'm still getting the message about the SD card removed expectantly daily. It seems this mainly happens overnight while the phone is charging. I very seldom turn the phone off. I'll try some of the good suggestions left on this forum and get back with you guys later. The card in question is a 16GB SanDisc.
