Re: Why is it that over 60 Complaints have been made to verizon about the razr screen cracking, and there is still no known issue ? Any answers Verizon?

i have a theory about why this is happening!  The battery could be expanding due to a faulty battery or being over charged buy using a cheap charger eventually causing the screen to burst from to much pressure in one point.  The phone is sealed so there is no room for expansion.  Anyone think i am on to something?

Your theory makes complete sense. The only plausible reason I've heard so

far. +1 to you.

I too have had TWO DROID RAZR CRACK...most of us have dropped our phones a billion times over the past decade and NEVER EVER AS MANY TIMES AS WE DID HAD EVER CRACKED A SCREEN....well i dropped my razr and paid the $100 bux and only took me SEVEN DAYS to crack the next one... I managed to explain to customer service that i only had the phone for 7 days and i didnt do nething to it and it was cracked ...got the new phone for free well.....i  had to charge the 635$ to my credit card and would receive a refund once the factory got it ...WELL YA THAT WAS IN MAY!!!! Every customer service person was telling me it was in process and every month i called i got the same thing told to me...well now i was supposed to receive a call last week about a supervisor telling me he would personally make sure this goes thru and call me back on wed ...yup u got it NO CALL BACK!!!!!!!!! I'm going to try for the 20th time but I will make sure this is my last ...they'll get a note from the civil courts to handle their lousy customer service...their managers can't even commit to what they say...pathetic!

Hello Boulderdash and community!

I am so sorry for the damages caused to your phones. I know what an investment we put into our devices and I want you to be proud and happy with your phone!

This is a very tricky issue because we have to be very careful and mindful of what actually caused the damage to the device.  If there are any signs of exterior damage I would highly recommend utilizing phone insurance if you have it.

If there are cracks or bleeding underneath the screen and there weren't any drops or extreme pressure that caused this we may be able to evaluate this for a warranty replacement.

I have to stress caution because if it is in fact determined and found that there was any sort of physical damage (even a bump on the ground can cause damage!) then there may be a nonrefundable fee.

We are absolutely here to help and if it was a legitimate warranty claim, we will process it!

Thanks,

To follow up on durb69's theory, I wonder if pressure from the back (i.e.a rigid case) could contribute to the screen cracking from an expanding hot battery?

i honestly think that this could really be the issue.  I recently replaced a badly swollen battery out of my old droid X because with the battery cover installed it was putting so much pressure on the screen it looked distorted like it was going to burst through the screen at any time.  This is why i think this could be the issue in the razr given the fact that there is no room for expansion inside the phone case.  It is very possible for defective batteries or aftermarket chargers to cause this.  IMO at least.

That's some pretty amazing processing time!  It only took about 5 months for Verizon (almost 1/4 of someone's contract) to acknowledge this claim.

I get a new phn every two yrs. I got driod razr max a cpl months ago and yep already cracked screen. My last driod the one before the II, I must have dropped abt 300 times and I never had a problem with it. This razr maxx phn ya I have dropped it...not unlike last phn, in fact way less because I just got it. I tried to get someone who has a business in fixing screens of iPhones iPads said he wouldnt fix the razr max that its all fused together and would be difficult and expensive. So thats when I found this complaint trail. I'm so mad..I do not have insurance...and my two yrs is in 1 yr and 9 months. What are my options?  I hope Verizon steps up to the plate and starts helping their customers come up with some kid of option for screen fixing solutions. Its a problem...face it Motorola/Corning/VERIZON! The stories are all too similar to ignore. But your doing your best to do just that. We need to keep at Motorola/Corning/Verizon...squeaky wheel..and everyone who has the same problem must post their gripes.

For the record, there's an entire page of posts here on the same issue:

What is so infuriating is they market this phone as being made with "Kevlar" and "Gorilla Glass" which, at the very least, implies that this phone more durable than the typical smartphone. This obviously isn't the case.  Like the majority of people on this board, my Razr Maxx's screen developed a small crack at the bottom, which gradually spread across the entire screen over the course of four days. At lease it was usable for that period with only slight affect to the touch screen's functionality. On the seventh day after the initial crack appeared, the phone started to shut off on its own, and the battery was running extremely hot.  Of course Verizon "can't" (read won't) send a replacement phone because of the cracks on the screen, which they automatically presume to be physical damage caused by operator mishandling.  Of course I'm 6 months into a contract in which i have five other family members on the plan, and have to either pay full retail for a new phone or eat the termination fee and jump ship to another carrier. Normally VZ is great about standing by its phones when there is a problem, except when the phone is an expensive yet brittle phone...The whole Kevlar/Gorilla Glass marketing platform makes this even more difficult to accept.
