I wish to suspend my land line service to save a few dollars. We also have ADT and their service uses Verizon land line to communicate any issues with their offices. Would ADT still be able to receive a trouble message from our home if land line is temporarily suspended????

Unless ADT has a Cell-based backup device to report a trouble, the alarm will require the Landline if it needs to report something. The alarm will run standalone without the line, you will just lose the monitoring you pay for.

And so no one will likely to respond in a timely manner in case of a Burglary or Fire.
So don't totally suspend service. Don't know if Verizon offers some minimum phone line service for those planning on being away.
