After I have a missed call that goes to voice mail, my phone rings again and I get the following notification in my email alerts:
Call Notification from 8882346786 - Verizon VM at Jan 23, 2013 4:34:41 PM
Why would the VM system call me? I mean the phone actually rings and caller ID also shows that Verizon VM is calling.
Right after posting this I think I figured it out. I had the Voice Mail Preview setting turned to on. This allows you to listen while the voice mail is being left. So that is why the phone rings.
