I recently applied for a government position, and to my surprise, I have a collections account negatively impacting my current credit account coming from VERIZON WIRELESS SOUTHEAST, which was allegedly already settled.

I have been attempting to resolve this issue since I disconnected the service due to poor reception just a week after acquiring it. I was informed by a retail worker in Chula Vista, CA that I was able to disconnect the service if I felt unsatisfied within 30 days (before the 1st bill is due), free of charge. The customer service representative informed me the same as well. I was then charged 225 dollars (unauthorized) so I called and spoke to a customer service representative which informed me that I HAD to pay it, I asked to speak to a representative and she hung up. I called again the day after, spoke to a customer service representative and was informed that I was misinformed by the retail service worker but because of his mistake, I still had to pay the full amount although he put in a request to modify the balance which was denied for unknown reasons. I called again, and the customer service representative apologized for the hassle and stress and informed me not to worry and that the balance was going to be cleared. I was informed that I was to receive a letter stating that the balance had been cleared, never happened.

To my surprise, as mentioned above, I receive a letter in late November stating I am in collections with McCarthy, Burgess & Wolff while I am currently in a background process for a government position.

I have tried countless times to communicate with the collections agency without avail and tried calling Verizon customer service and have been transferred to multiple departments over and over again.

I NEED TO GET THIS RESOLVED.

I already submitted a complaint on the Better Business Bureau and I am looking into opening a Small Claims Court in my area in order if this situation isn't resolved before I finish my backgrounds investigation process for this governmental position.
