Collections

Hello, I am needing some direction and assistance.

This week on my credit report a new collections agency showed up and it took my credit score way down.

It is from a verizon account. This account belongs to my Ex of like 12 years ago. We switched the account owner from my name to his name, and removed me from the account. So why in the world would it go to my name in collections and on my credit reports?

I do I dispute this and get it removed from negatively impacting my credit score? I need Verizon to give me proof that I don't own the account anymore.

Thank you for reaching out about your options. As Verizon no longer owns the account the first step would be to dispute it with the collections company. Please be advised though that as the collections went to you, it sounds like the other party never took over ownership of the account. Once a new party takes over an account, all previous credit details are removed and there can only be one credit profile attached. I hope this helps.

Is there a way for Verizon to Check the account # and names for me? I still know the account number.

I don't know if anyone at Verizon can still access the account if it's gone to collections.  Would contact the collections agency and dispute it with them.  Maybe your ex changed the account back to your name to duck the bill?  Hope you get a resolution.

This just happened to me. I transferred ownership to someone else and got a new account. I know it transferred because Verizon wouldnโ€™t let me open a separate account if it wasnโ€™t all paid off or the new owner didnโ€™t accept the account with payment agreements. I donโ€™t even have access to the old account anymore. Itโ€™s been a year and they shut  the phone off on the old account, and theyโ€™re contacting me about payment. My name shouldnโ€™t be on there at all anymore, especially when the new account owners made payments. How am I responsible? Why did it take a year for this to show up? Iโ€™ve been to Verizon in person, online, and on the phone without the old account coming up until now
