FIOS Dialtone

My wife and I were connected to the FIOS system on Monday Feb 23 so we're still very new at all of this. My question has to do with the dial tone produced by the phone service.

A day or so after the service started my wife needed to make a call and after lifting the receiver reported that the phones must be out - we were getting a strange dial tone.  I listened and hear a steady beep beep beep similar to the equipment busy ring when a phone was left off the hook.  We checked all the phones in the house and noted that all were properly hung up. As a test I asked her to call our number on her cell phone. Our home phones rang.

After this I tried calling a neighbor and despite the same curious dial tone the call went through.

So my question is: what does the normal dial tone sound like?  Is it a steady buzz or the rapid beeping?  Or is this something I should be reporting to Verizon as a problem?

Report it as a problem. Dialtone should be same as always. Only difference is if you have a voice mail waiting and you didn't have voice mail before. But voice mail is not a beep, at least not in my area.

I am having the exact same problem - it is a rapid beeping.  I also set up a new speakerphone about the same time that our service was switched to Verizon, but I don't think the speakerphone would cause this, because it happens with every phone in the house.

And you are certain that it isn't due to a voice mail waiting.   Anyone that newly received FIOS that didn't have FIOS or Verizon Voice Mail before might be caught off guard by the Pulsed Dial tone that indicates that a voice mail has been left.

To be 100% certian that this is not the voice mail waiting message call in and check for messages.

Dial your phone number and press "*" when you hear the prompts or dial the access number for your area.  Default password should be the last 4 of your phone number.
