I have questions about Verizon Home Voice Mail service?
I am blind, can see a little. I already have an answering machine that came with my phone. I would like to keep using it. But since Fios was install on April 2nd, I do not get my messages on it. The Messages go to Verizon Home Voice Mail. I do not see well enough to use that service. Can it be turn off and would my messages go to the answering system I already have? Can you help me.
Thank you

Hello Roofercat,
Yes you can certainly remove Verizon voicemail which is a feature typically included in a bundle of features. You a couple options:
1.) Remove the Verizon voicemail from the line
2.) Change the amount of rings on Verizon voicemail to a higher number then your home machine (back up in case home machine breaks or power loss)
Benefit of retaining the voicemail is you can get a voicemail message if your on a phone call already.
If you remove the voicemail it will not send the existing messages already recorded on the Verizon account to your home voicemail machine.
If you would like to remove the Verizon voicemail still you can call 1-800-Verizon and an order specialist can submit the order to remove the feature. I can assist you with that as well if you refer to the private message I sent you to acquire more information.
Thank you

You can change the number of rings using the online, My Verizon menu
My Services -- Home Phone -- Voice Mail -- Voice Mail Settings -- Telephone Settings:
"How many times do you want your phone to ring before forwarding to Voicemail? "
Hope you find it!

You can also try this: from the VM main menu press 9 for mailbox options. Then press 2 for "other mailbox settings". Then press 3 for "ring count". Then press 1 to review or change your ring count. You can then enter the number of rings you would like to hear before a call is forwarded to your voice mail. You can enter any number from 2 - 8.
