Indicator Light not working

I recently got the FIOS triple play, with Verizon Freedon Essentials, which I already had.  The message Indicator light for voicemail is not working. It worked fine before, when I had a regular copper landline.   I have had three repair tickets, which they keep closing, though the problem is not fixed.  .

Most recently, since I complained about closing the tickets without contacting me, I have three times gotten automated calls asking me to "press 1 if the issue is fixed, press 2 if it is not fixed and you will be connected to someone to help you."  Each time, I press 2 and wind up hanging up after listening to 10 minutes or so of total silence.   This tech support is very poor, as far as I can tell.

Two questions: 1)  Will they ever fix my problem?

2) Can I go back to my copper landline, even though I have FIOS?  I always liked that the landline would still work in the event of a power failure and am not happy to give that up (despite the 8 hour battery backup, which is not an adequate substitute.)

Wait! It gets worse and more bizarre! Today I came home to a voicemail that said I only had audible indicator notice and if I want visible notice I would have to call and order it! This is surreal. Is anyone home in their customer support??
