Landline Disconnected and Want to Reconnect

My traditional home phone service was disconnected in 2018 as part of a billing dispute when the old copper wire degraded and was not repaired or replaced by Verizon in Massachusetts, despite repeated requests. Nevertheless, I was charged for monthly service, even though the static on the line made it unusable. I would now like to reactivate my landline and get my old number back, if possible. The old number is not being currently used and has not been reassigned, I do not believe. Has anyone had this situation or something similar? I have not been able to navigate the call system or the chat because this is a landline issue, with which they do not appear to be able to handle. Please help!!

If you are certain the number is not in use, seems like you could find any provider who does landline service and sign up with them.  I'd recommend getting VoIP home phone service, not the old-school copper wire technology as "plain old telephone service" aka POTS lines are going the way of the dinosaurs and the infrastructure is not that well maintained anymore.

According to Verizon's website, you can call (800) - VERIZON to ask about Fios services, which I'd presume includes Fios Home Phone (Verizon's VoIP landline service).  There are also cable ISPs who offer VoIP landline service.  The Blue Logo Place still has POTS service, but it's expensive because my dad has one with them and he pays what a decent cell phone plan costs for it (!).
