No busy signal - just mailbox access instructions

I converted to Verizon and asked them to disable the Verizon voice mail so I could use my own answering machine. That works fine. However, when someone calls and I am on the phone, rather than getting a busy signal, the caller is prompted to enter a mailbox code for access to messages. Can this be changed back to a busy signal via a code, or do I call Verizon customer service?

Check w cust srvc first 800-verizon make sure the VM was absolutely Removed.
if it was , ask to go to repair (800-483-1000) bc its still prompting as if it is a VM on the acct.
They'll be able to put in a trouble ticket and have it removed!
hope this helps
