I am moving out of the Verizon service area for a year, new area is AT&T. I was under the impression that once the porting was completed, my Verizon account would be cancelled and I would not have to pay Verizon. But the manager at AT&T says I have to keep the Verizon account open and keep paying monthly charges. According to what I've read that doesn't sound right. Does anyone know the answer? (According to the AT&T website, AT&T cancels the old account once the porting is completed.) I do understand that I shouldn't cancel my Verizon account until the AT&T service is set up and we're sure the porting is working.
Thanks.

You need to first port the number to AT&T before you can cancel your Verizon account.
