Can call forwarding be activated remotely? I'm away from home and forgot to do it before I left.

Every time I dial *72 to try to forward my phone I get the message,"Your call forwarding always service has been activated successfully. Thank you." And yet I still cannot forward calls using *72. I just keeping getting that message.

I should have mentioned that I'm on a copper landline, not FIOS, But I'll keep the tips in mind should I ever convert.
