I have a situation where I'd like to disconnect an existing PC and connect a guest PC to my Mom's FIOS line.
Both Mom and I are Verizon FIOS customers. I'd like to take my own Laptop PC to my Mom's house to test a problem that Mom's experiencing with her landline phone. I need to eliminate her PC as a source of an issue related to her landline phone.
I'd like to disconnect her PC and connect my Laptop to the 'net line for troubleshooting purposes.
I know I can connect my Laptop to an unused Router port but I need to use the existing ethernet cable that's connected to my Mom's PC and connect the same ethernet line to my Laptop PC while my Mom's PC remains disconnected. In other words, I need to connect only 1 PC at a time to 1 Router 'net port.
My question is, will my Laptop be plug-and-play with the 'net connection recognized and usable or do I need to keep my Mom's PC connected and use a second Router port to connect my Laptop?

Thanks. I used my Laptop to test my Mom's Ethernet issue. Laptop worked ok.
