Long ping times and dropouts

We just got Fios installed (Business circuit) and upload live video to a studio in Atlanta. Maximum overhead is 300k which is far below our 900+ upstream bandwidth. We have repeated network dropouts. These last between 1 and 10 seconds and then everything comes back.  We have logged several calls with Verizon to no avail.

I have been pinging the local ONT and the next 4 hops up the path to their ALTANET handoff.  There is spikes of terrible latency 3 hops up and some include time out for as many as 10 pings. This is most likely my problem as those dropouts cascade all the way to the ONT.

What can be done about this? I find it hard to believe this doesn't cause service interruptions to many users.  Verizon doesn't seem to have either the ability to know how to deal with such a customer complaint or they are terrible at relaying the acknowledgment of the problem to me.
