Question about getting a third party router. An ASUS RT-AX3000 specifically.

Crimson_Technology

Hi all,

I'm considering getting the ASUS RT-AX3000 router to replace my current CR1000A from Verizon. I want the Asus for OpenVPN and just more flexibility with my network. Are there any special steps I need to take when swapping them out? Should I be reaching out to Verizon? Do they need to do anything on their end? Also, if anyone has good or bad experiences with the Asus, please let me know.

Thank you!

Should be able to just plug it in. Worst case, if your ASUS router can't get online, re-connect the CR1000A, log into it and perform a DHCP Release, immediately unplug it, then re-connect the ASUS.
