System Log Time Different from Router Time

I've noticed my system logs report the incorrect time. They are generally fast by 5+ hours.
For example, my router's date and time settings will display the correct time (e.g. Jan 7, 22:37). In contrast, the system log events will report the time as Jan 8, 03:50.
I've tried adding the extra ntp pool servers shown below, but this did nothing.
2.north-america.pool.ntp.org 3.north-america.pool.ntp.org
Is there a simple explanation for this?

The router being Linux based, may be logging based on UTC time. The log viewer through the web interface won't go and rewrite the log file just based on the time zone set in the GUI.

Except if I ssh in to the router and issue the 'date' command it shows the correct time and time zone.
Bugs the hell out of me. Don't know why but it does.
