Use of External Hard Drive

I have a G1100 router and FIOS TV.  I would like to attach an external USB 2.0/3.0 hard drive to my network.

Can this be done?

Not with a G1100. You can get an external NAS like Western Digital My Cloud which connects to the LAN port of a router.
