Accessing Newsgroup error

This happens while connecting to Verzion's newsgroup which has been basically killed off and third party commercial newsgroups as well. I am using Grabit and it gives me an error saying Socket Error: # 10060 Connection Timed Out

Perhaps I'm a bit confused about what you are talking about here, but Verizon stopped offering newsgroup access at the end of September. See the announcement they made in August for more info.

Odd I swore it was mentioned they still support the Big 8. To test I still tried and connected to free newsgroup servers to try it out and I get the same connection error.

Apparently that one was down too I just tried news.readfreenews.net and it worked out. I guess they really did kill it off completely. Verizon should really update their pages, there are some pages that still say yes Verizon offers access to newsgroups.

Verizon pulled support for all but the Big 8 newsgroups on 06/24/2008. (Announced here.) Then over a year later on 09/30/2009 they stopped offering newsgroup access altogether. (Announced here.)

If you are seeing pages that state Verizon still offers newsgroups, those URLs should probably be reported to Verizon for correction.
