Hello All
Hardware: MI424WR-GEN2 hardware revision F
Firmware: 20.21.0.2
Frequently the DHCP service on this router fails, I get associations, but don't get DHCP from the router. Devices that already have leased IPs or that have static IP have no problems.
The solution is to reboot the router. This happens at least once a week.
I've checked and I have the latest firmware (as per the check for updates button)
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks,
~Todd

Hi....
What I would suggest is that you take advantage of Verizon's offer of a free Rev I replacement router. That will likely solve your problem and give you the added benefit of WPA2 capability.
See the top link on this page to order the free replacement:

Thanks... I checked it out... "free upgrade" that you have to pay shipping and handling on!! 😕
Does anyone know if they'll swap this out at a verizon store?

I don't know about swapping out at a store, but when I did that upgrade the shipping and handling came to $6.
Seems pretty reasonable to me.

I agree, $6 is reasonable for a voluntary upgrade, but not for a solution to fix a problem with their equipment
I will try to call support

Out of curiosity what kind of devices aren't connecting and does rebooting the actual device ever fix it. It kind of sounds like an old APIPA issue/problem where devices would fail to request a new lease when the ip was set to expire. I think the actiontec is 4 hours lan ip lease. Does that sound familiar. Do they fail about that amount of time or interval?

Also if I had an option of paying six bucks vs waiting on hold and talking to one of the upfront agents and who knows how many transfers, well, I'll let ya guess what I'd choose 😃

Mixture of my work laptop (I work in IT), androids, etc. I see the wifi assocfiation but dhcp fails outright even if I do a forced renew. I've been lazy (mostly because my two toddlers don't afford me time) to wireshark it during the problem to see whats actually going on.

To anyone who took the router upgrade talked about above, what happens to your old router? Do you have to ship it back, do they give you a return label?

I got the upgrade. They didn't ask for the old router back.

So... I figured what the snuff... I'll pay the $5.99 on the upgrade. I figured at the best case I'd have mmy old device as aa COAX enabled AP that I can strip back and back feed some deadzones, worst case I paid $5.99
anyway, took standard shipping, it got here today, the next day! I ordered yesterday morning!!
BUT.... I opened it up and its CLEARLY used!!! feet show wear and ter, lables were peeled off an put back on, the Serial number label actually has the WEP key printed on it but blacked out with Sharpie!
Its the same revisio I had... (according to its lable) MI424-WR Rev F
I get reduce, reuse, recycle, but please spend a little on cleaner labels, new feet and have the device appear to be new.
I'm lacking any confidence that this will solve my problem at this point, fingere's crossed!

Whew. I can understand them sending you a refurbished router, I guess, but a Rev F?
When you swap routers, take a look at the System Monitoring > Router Status page and see what model number it says there. Hopefully it'll be MI424WR-GEN3I.

Yeah, whatever happened to the term "clean and screen"
But that rev F isn't half bad. Make sure to use WPA2 AES encryption for your password, as it unlocks the PRE Wireless N MIMO that the Rev F has.
The WEP stays or hangs around 20mb or less wireless, and the rev f N on WPA2 AES will get you close to 65mb over wifi

I guess I was just lucky in that my replacement was a new Rev I unit.
Did the replacement at least fix the DHCP problem you were having?

Time will tell...
Given its the exact same device, I may simply call into support to see what they think. The only difference I've seen in the minor router revision number (don't have them off hand) is that they're now FORCING alpha numeric on the WPA2 password. It will be a pain in the ankle to change all my devices as well as my guests. I'll need a wifi cafe sign on the way into my home announcing the change!

Well.... it was good while it lasted.
the "free" Router started going batty with verying latency and packet loss over wifi 10 feet away by line of sight, I power cycled, now its DOA. When powered on all lights come on then just a RED power light, no other lights.
that took less than 3 months...
