I see lots of G3100 routers and E3200 extenders on sale on Ebay. Is there any info on the differences between the HW Hardware revisions (1102,1103,1104) and the FW Firmware revisions?

No, it will not update the firmware due to it thinks the internet is only accessible through the WAN, which is an incorrect assumption. The only way to update is to either double NAT it or bridge the WAN interface. I don't think bridging the WAN interface will make it update either.
There are virtually no benefits of updating the firmware of non-Internet facing network device.

HW Revisions have virtually no difference. Revisions are done if there is a part shortage.
FW means the Software. Firmware is not a technically correct word. Firmware would mean the EEPROM program in the Broadcom CPU. FW would be upgrade to the latest available in the regional ACS.

Thanks Cang! I notice that the back of the HW1104 says "Wifi 6" certified and the HW1103 does not. So that is just a labelling thing and there is no real functionality difference between the HW1104 and 1103?
So perhaps just upgrading the FW is all that is needed to get all bug and security fixes?
Thanks for your reply!
Also...if I get another G3100 (I have a G3100 included with Internet) is there a way to force an update of firmware from Verizon on a second G3100? If I just change IP and connect it to coax to other G3100 will it get updated or do I need to connect it to my ONT temperarilly to get FW updated?

Thanks for your reply! I understand what you are saying. I was hoping upgrading G3100 software might make it more compatible as an Extender to the existing G3100 (FW 3.2.1.15) attached to ONT. I was able to update a G3100 from 1.x to 3.1.1.19 but it would not update any further. I then was able to get thee G3100 to get internet access but found many interesting anomalies... and not as "clean" as if using E3200. Not sure if actual "backhaul" was used... looked like a moca connection... For more info on my observations/difficulties.... See my post https://community.verizon.com/t5/Fios-Internet-and-High-Speed/Please-Help-me-to-Configure-a-G3100-as...
I'd love to get your insight on using the G3100 as an extender to another G3100! 🙂

I don't understand what anomaly are you seeing? Using a router as an extender is not a supposed use case of the original design. Obviously you can't expect every nominal feature to work.

No difference. A printing can't change what's inside.
