Recently my router and internet speed was upgraded. I have now the new 1 gigabit speed. I noticed they put a cat 6a ethernet cable from the ont to the router. Due i have a lot of games consoles, i would like to do wired vs wi fi. I got a ethernet switcher but when i go to buy a cat 6a cable at the store all the sales persons asks me if i want the shielded or un shielded cable, (according to them, I can't mix match it. ) I called verizon and the agent was not able to tell me if the cable that they put from the ont to the router is a shielded or un shielded one. This took me by surprise due they were the ones who put it. I even told the agent that is a flat cat 6a of 28awg. Do it matters if i get either one? I google it, i see that i need to get the correct cable. This is what i found (Note: if you choose shielded cables, there's no mix-and-match; everything connected to a shielded cable must also be shielded and grounded , like couplers, jacks, or even network controllers. You can't connect the shielded and un shielded cables.) could someone clarify this for me? due i did not got any help from verizon. The only question i asked them was if the cable they installed was shielded or un shielded and which one to get. Any advice from this forum will be appreciated.
