Extremely slow Fios upload speed suddenly

I have a 500/500Mbps  Fios plan, and am running a year-old MacMini, hardwired using a Cat.6 Ethernet cable.. Downloading and uploading have worked well until today.  On several speed tests my download speed was a bit over 500Mbps, but uploads always reported less than 2 Mbps.

I turned off my modem, waited 30 seconds, and reconnected. I ran more speed tests and the results were similar.

There is one apparent hardware oddity: The Verizon box where service comes in has a red indicator light glowing next to the words Replace Battery.

The automated voice response system on customer support have been no help.

How can I get in contact with a real human for tech support? What else can I do to fix this?
