Fed Up With Slow Connection - Any Last Resorts?

Hi all,

Hope you can help us with this one! I've had FiOs for over two years now, in a house with multiple devices connected to the WiFi at once. This never seemed to be an issue for our 150mB connection, until about a month and a half ago.

Although nothing has changed in the household or surrounding area, the WiFi suddenly decided to essentially stop working. The max speed connection we've been getting is 50mB, and even then the WiFi just won't load certain apps on the phone or laptop; our fire stick stopped connecting completely. And yes, the devices indicate that there is a strong connection with the WiFi.

We have of course called fios multiple times, restarted our router even more times than we can count, and had a technician come to change the router for a new one - spoiler alert: none of these measures worked out. 

Does anyone have any ideas on what we can do to fix this? It's getting really old really fast having to wait 5min for a YouTube video to load.

What router do you have currently? If you have the G1100, it's possible a recent firmware upgrade introducing SON (Self Organizing Network) has been giving you some problems. This is something you might have turned on as well using one of the Verizon apps, or the router's web interface.

Also, are you connecting to the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz Wireless network? For a period of time, Verizon named 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz the same, then separated them, and then returned back to tying them back together when using SON.

Additionally, some devices don't support 5Ghz DFS channels. If SON is enabled and attempting to band steer devices that don't support 5Ghz DFS frequencies, you'll find the device will disconnect and reconnect, or can't join the network unless you try several times.

Speeds capping at 50Mbps typically jives with a 2.4Ghz 1x1 Wi-Fi connection.
