Weird issue plaguing my Fios gigabit connection starting around 2:00 PM Eastern Time this afternoon in the Boston area.
My download speed slowed to an absolute crawl yet upload is completely okay. Ran a few speedtests via Speedtest.net and got some jarring results with 5 Mbps download and 550 Mbps upload. These results were with my laptop directly connected to the G1100 router via ethernet. Surprisingly no latency issues as download is 5ms and upload can be as much as 50 ms. This evening I gave it a shot again and got up to 10 Mbps download with 900 Mbps upload.

Given this situation called up Verizon and wondered if there is a network issue. They ran diagnostics on their end and said the ONT is getting the full signal and their speedtests were showing more like 700 Mbps Down | 850 Mbps Up. I ran Verizon's own speedtest and arrived at similar results (see screenshots) but the speedtest.net results were mimicing real world browsing performance.
To give a perspective of my setup, I have a G-1100 router and a ONT box in the basement where the Fiber/Coax comes into the home. There is an Fios extender in the room above the basement which connects via Coax and outputs to another router. That router outputs to a Powerline network in the home. I unplugged the the Powerline network thinking some weird signaling issues may be impacting the G1100 router in some way, shape or form but that did not change a thing.
As an aside, I'm not sure which lights should be "green" on my ONT, but the MoCA and POTS light are off. Yet I can watch TV with the guide AND also receive phone calls. As it pertains to lights on the G1100 router, when connecting my laptop to the LAN port at the back, the LED light behavior above the ethernet port appears strange. While the left light flashes green, the right hand status light does not light up at all. Similarly, the WAN port on the router which has the ethernet cable coming from the ONT, flashes green on the left BUT is unlit on the right (see pic). I say this because when I directly connected my laptop into the G1100 router via the LAN port, the connection will intermittently die and Windows shows no internet access.
After being transferred to various reps, they offered me to swap the G1100 and said that MAY be the source of the issue. Since I lease the G1100 I will go in tomorrow to the Verizon store and get a new unit. Any thoughts as to what's causing this issue? I can understand if it's symmetrical (i.e. download and upload speeds to a crawl) but with it being only on the download portion, something seems way off.
Advice/insights/thoughts/solutions are all appreciated.
Thanks

Potential issues
Link speed - looks fine on router, upper LED means 1Gbps link.
Ethernet cabling - what kind of cable are you using?
Broken router - unlikely as you have bypassed the router
Broken ONT - PON upstream - Likely. Ask the CSR to check the PON circuit alarms and power levels. But contradicts if the router speed test is near wire-speed. VZ speed test is accurate.

So on another forum someone recommended that I directly plug into the ONT via its ethernet connection and bypass the router to isolate if the router is causing the issues.
After directly plugging I'm getting the SAME results.
Now it's REALLY a head scratcher as to why this is occurring.
