Fios pre installation internet only

I am getting Fios internet only installed next week.   Where does the technician put the ONT box, Modem and Router?  Can it be put anywhere in my house or does it need to go in my basement?   I don’t have Cable or home service.

Welcome to the forums!  You're talking mostly to other users here.

Note that FiOS does not use a modem.  The ONT provides the bridge between the fiber world and the on-prem wires.  For internet, it provides an Ethernet jack that a router plugs into.  It's that simple.

As far as location goes, that depends on the specifics of your home.  Nobody can tell you where it will go without seeing your home.  What I can say is the fiber typically enters your home near other utilities.  If a landline is present (doesn't have to be active), it's entry point is a good possibility for the fiber entry point.  Once the fiber is inside, it needs to go to a location where the ONT can be installed with easy access to a mains power plug.  This may be nearby the entry point, or it may be deeper into your home.  Once the ONT is located, an Ethernet cable will be run to your desired router location.  If it's on another floor or room, the Verizon tech will drill holes to pull the cable through.  Note they don't install cable inside walls, they tack them to the outside of the wall.

In short, have some locations in mind that work for you.  If you communicate clearly and politely with the tech, they will do their best to accommodate your wishes, as long as they are viable.  Note that some situations may result in an extra charge depending on the complexity of the install.  Again, clear and polite communications is key to determining if this will happen.

If you want cables installed inside walls, have the VZ tech do a simple an install as possible then have the cables installed the way you like later.  If you're handy, it's not to hard to DIY Ethernet installs; plenty of help online and YouTube.  Or you can hire a handyman / home-theater install to do it.

Welcome to FiOS!  It's great!

I live in a basement that I rent and the technician will be here next week to install. Where are the normal locations they might try and install? I’m wondering if I need to prepare my landlords for anything that may affect them. I’m hopeful they won’t need to go into their house or run any lines outside, drill extra holes, etc. There are still some cable lines here from Optimum so I don’t know if that helps. I’m a little worried because I really need this service lol I can’t stand using their internet anymore with Optimum cause it’s so bad, all of the time.
