G1100 in MoCA bridge mode says "cable disconnected" but another works fine as router

I have Fios internet with a white ONT (at least nine years old) with its MoCA port active. From its MoCA port is a long coax run to the opposite corner of the house, where there's a G1100 router.

This setup works fine, but I'd like to replace the G1100 router with an Asus wifi mesh system I was given, but still take advantage of the existing coax in order to not have to run Ethernet through the house.

I have another Verizon G1100 on hand that works fine as a router. I set it to bridge mode and plugged it into the same coax outlet where the G1100 router is connected. I power-cycled the ONT.

But when the G1100 comes up in bridge mode, the globe light blinks white quickly, then blinks white slowly, then turns red and stays red. The web interface on the G1100 in bridge mode says "cable disconnected" even though the cable is connected. The MoCA light on the ONT blinks red. There is no network connection.

If I replace the G1100 in bridge mode with the other G1100 that's in router mode, its globe light almost immediately turns solid white and the network works normally.

Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix this?
