Internet Outage.

I live in Powhatan, Virginia (outside Richmond) and I have had Verizon DSL internet for over a year and have not really experienced outages. However, as of April 30, I am suddenly unable to connect to the internet. I have a Westell 327W router. I have restarted and reset it several times since April 30. It is now May 3 and I still am unable to connect to the internet. The DSL light on the Westell is solid and Windows appears to establish a successful network connection both via ethernet and wireless. However, when I go into Internet Explorer and attempt to go to a web site, it eventually times out. I checked the status of the Westell and it says Internet Not Connected. I have spoken with Verizon support a couple times and they have confirmed that the modem is fine and they want to send a service tech out to my house, which means I will have to take time off work and I really can't afford to do that.

Does anyone know if Verizon might be experiencing outages in the Richmond, Virginia area? So far I have not been able to confirm that one way or another. Any info is appreciated.

Mugarumpet,  I have a few suggestions.

If you do not want to wait for a repair call, you might want to call tech support back.  Each call is a different experience with different skill levels of technitions, if you know what I mean.

Have you check the reported connection rate for the Verizon router?  what does it claim your upload and download rates are?  You can go to the router home page or www.verizon.net/speedtest

I have DSL in PA and I have not had internet service since April 19th.  I have been on the phone with verizon tech support so many times, it is ridiculous.  They cannot seem to figure out the problem.  They have already sent me 2 modems and somehow they were both defective.  They wanted to send a 3rd??????  The sent a tech person to my house, still cannot figure out the problem.  My computer has been cleaned from spyware, mailware, and every other ware out there, my computer will work if brought to someone else's house and hooked up.  Therefore not my computer.  I went out and bought a new modem from Best Buy, a Verizon model.  That one still doesn't work.  Why can't Verizon fix this issue!!!  Forget about me paying my bill for this month.  Not happening.  I am switching to Comcast.  I will never go back to Verizon.

Just an FYI caution. Dont just not pay. That doesnt hurt Verizon in the slightest. They couldnt care less. All that will do is hurt your credit rating. Fight them, get them to remove the charges, file a lawsuit, do whatever you need to, just dont not pay.

Remember, your ~$30 (dont know your exact amount of payment) is but a drop in the bucket for Verizon who is making Millions per day. All they will do is send you to collections, and if that happens, while it may be correctable in time. Will only hurt your credit rating (even if just in the short term), cause you headaches and cost you more money that it would have been to just pay them (costs involved in correcting the credit rating, you have to foot these even if the mistake was on the other side).

Just an FYI from an experianced (comcast fight) observer.

Did you ever get this issue resolved?

I am currently experiencing similar problems.  No internet light on modem, but DSL light is solid green and line test show a strong connection.  Tech support has tried everything, on my second modem, hours of my life wasted and still no internet connection.  Can't believe this experience is happening in this day and age....

It might just be that particular type of service you have has an issue  underground or somewhere thatโ€™s causing interference and the service to cut out. You might try looking at another provider that uses a different type of delivery method. Sometimes switching providers but using the same delivery method for the last mile will cause the same problem to continue. I would check with your neighbors to see what other providers they have or go to website like telecom.live that tells you what internet providers are at your address. I have seen it over and over in Dallas where somebody will switch providers but if the new provider uses the same conduit they end up having the same problem. Ultimately, you need to switch away from your existing product and get something new like a metro ethernet or a new fiber line from a different provider. Most providers will pay for all of that to be delivered to your address without charging you, and see if that fixes the problem .
