I've had this problem since I first got my Verizon Westell Versalink 327w, I constantly get kicked off the internet everytime lightning occurs, and occasionally when someone turns on the microwave. I just recently disabled the wireless capabilities and I STILL have this problem, can anyone help me?

The microwave I can't explain, however the loss of DSL service during thunder storms is a fact of life. When I had DSL, if I could hear thunder, my DSL service was down. Lightning strikes induce very large noise spikes into unshielded wiring, and if you have an older wireline installation, much of the wiring between you and the Central Office is NOT shielded.
The induced voltages from the lighting strikes are very large compared to the DSL signals, so it should come as no surprise that thunderstom activity can disrupt DSL service. . That's one of the reasons I became a FiOS customer. FiOS is bullet proof, the weather has absolutely no effect on it. By contrast, if it was raining, the downlink speed on my DSL circuit fell about 500kbps...
IN theory Verizon could replace the cabling with shielded cabling, but the reality is Verizon isn't making investments in copper unless they absolutely have too.
It could be possible the lightning is inserting electrical noise into the telephone wiring if anything untwisted/unshielded is running through that area that is knocking out the DSL. It's hard to explain what is going on with the Microwave though since those typically only knock out Wi-Fi signals, not DSL signals.
